New Visions Student Advisory Network

Overview

NV SAN will focus on increasing student voice and engagement on projects and intiatives that already exist, to some degree, within the school. Students will serve as NV SAN members and work with staff at the school to identify and implement recommendations to increase student voice and engagment. The specific project/initiative can be submitted by either students (in grades 10th or 11th) OR a staff person leading the project/initiative.

For Students Submitting A Project

As a student,  you  can apply as an individual (1 person) or a school team (2 to 3 students) to work on a change idea project around student voice and engagement at your school. It is recommended that you draft your responses to the questions ahead of time and complete the application form all in one sitting.  You can find application questions here

For Staff Submitting A Project

School staff can submit a student voice and engagement project or initiative within the school that they are leading where you need extra support in either starting or revamping the initiative. For example, if you are working with student leaders to start a club (social justice club, SGA, newspaper, etc) or if you’ve been tasked with working with students to survey students about their school experience.

NV SAN focuses on using a student-staff collaborative work model in order to collect data and implement projects. As such, the expectation is that you, as a staff member, will be working with 2 to 3 students lead aspects of the work in order to complete your project. Students should be available to attend all SAN meetings and be a full participant in the group. School staff members should be available to meet monthly for 30 minutes to 50 minutes (scheduled at the staff member's convenience) to discuss the project's progress.

"Being a part of NVSAN has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life, and I am so glad I was able to be a part of it at this age. Discussing all of the prominent issues going on within our education system as a result of the huge division between decision makers and the students is something that has really ignited a passion within me and I want to act as best as I can to empower other students to have a chance to have a seat at the table. "
